Starry Night Sky

MERCHANTS OF THE VOID

EPISODE ONE  POINT OF ORIGIN

I thought Astrostorm survivors were scarce because getting pulled apart a few hundred times and put back together in a space storm just… did something a little freaky to your neurology.

  Turns out, I was wrong.

There’s an entirely different reason why people who get sucked into an Astrostorm don’t survive, and it has very little to do with how well your atoms fare getting pushed through a thousand lightyears in a nanosecond, and everything to do with the science guilds who are waiting for you on the other side...

On the fast-paced, lawless Planet of Coiven, Evren West, a young survivor from the sector's most recent Astrostorm, does her best to survive after the anomaly wipes her memories and leaves her stranded on a world she doesn't know.

The young girl has trouble aplenty with her new life via hostile mechanic gangs, slippery Scavengers, and a perpetually empty stomach, but life on Covien only gets more complicated when a science guild from the common worlds shows up to hunt for the rumored survivor.

Thrust into a world of starway taxes and travel tolls, Evren's distant fantasies of leaving Covien behind become a crushing reality of needing to get offworld, and in a few days-- something Evren knows to be an impossible task for a nameless street urchin like herself.

But in Evren's exploits to get offworld, she becomes begrudgingly entangled in the lives of an eccentric merchant crew from an independent trade guild. Could this be another hiccup in her plans? Or has Evren just found a clever way to pay her fines and finally get to safety?

Haunted by a past she can't remember and challenged by a future that's slipping out of her fingers, Evren must accept the uncomfortable truths about her survival, or risk losing a battle that's already tipped out of her favour...

rating and content

In laymen's terms:
Not as violent as the Hunger Games, but potentially just as serious. Not as dark as Percy Jackson, but just as funny. Not as epic as Lord of the Rings, but hey, I'm trying. Perfect for people who wanted Avatar the Last Airbender (Nickelodeon) to be more mature, and Firefly (Josh Whedon) to be less crass.

We understand that every individual has different standards for media and content, but we'll do our best to outline what is– and isn't– in Merchants of the Void so you know exactly what you're getting into.

Merchants of the Void was written with older teens and young adults in mind, and while it's not explicit, or is it overly violent, Merchants of The Void does deal with heavier topics. We'll list some of them below, but it's hard to sum up a book's theme in just a few words. Discretion is recommended for readers under the age of 14.

MERCHANTS OF THE VOID - WHAT IT DOESN'T HAVE:
Witchcraft, blood magic or black magic, explicit content, gore, demonic power.

MERCHANTS OF THE VOID - WHAT IT HAS:
Death, substance abuse (and the recovery from), War, Unconsented scientific experimentation, Psychological manipulation (mind control), mental health disorders (psych. trauma, PTSD), and mild swearing.
Merchants of The Void also has magic (universal), and gifted individuals and races with supernatural abilities.
