Words and terminology

The Kosmoverse is a big place,  holding centuries of history, and many, many peoples- There are lots of words and terms people use to navigate this expansive universe, and here you can find them if you're ever confused as to what they mean.

Featured words
Astrostrom

An Astrsostrom refers to an anomoly in space that preplexes even the greatest scientists of the Kosmoverse. It is a large, formless vortex of energy and uniquely charged particles that forms much like a storm on a planet does. The similarities end there. Common Astrostorm signs are: 1. Loss of all power, 2. Frequency disruption and 3. Matter displacement. (Kosmoversal)

Some Examples:
  >"What does a sunset, a burning transport, and a large, raging
Astrostorm all have in common?" [Ep.1, Ch.1 ]
>“Hilarious– Comedy based off of your near death and freak survival of an Astrostorm. Truly, peak humour." [Ep.1, Ch.3 -Lewis]

Astrogate

As the name implies, Astrogate is a word used to describe holes in space that appear in the eye of an Astrostorm. There is very little research on Astrogates, as the only way to observe them is to study what is ejected. (Kosmoversal)

Some Examples:
  >"Covien’s Department of Astroportralis would like to remind citizens to report any and all Astrogate debris–” [Ep:1, Ch:1 –The Port]

>“My ship came down because of an Astrogate– because of an
Astrogate! Not because it came from an Astrogate..." [Ep:1, Ch:1, Evren]

Offworlder

It's pretty straightforward. It's a term for anyone that doesn't belong on your world. (Kosmoversal.  Blue Fringe: Insult.)

Some Examples:
  >" “Do you think that a Covienian is just going to let an Offworlder get away scotch-free?" [Ep1, Ch.3 – Evren to Lewis]

>“So? Am I getting an update every time a bunch of Offworlders screw up an engine replacement in the Lower Hangars?" [Ep 1,  Ch.10 - Kan to Gary]

Geodian

(Geo) JEE-oh-DEE-ahn

Geodian

pillars of the universe

Geodians are a numerous and hardy people. Although Geoh'dia is their Native system, most Geodians are born abroad as servants, labourers, or in some parts of the Kosmoverse, as slavesThey are known for Hatiresh, the culture-wide practice of commemorating traits, acts, and memories through coloured, patterned beads in significant braids in their hair.

Their strength, durability, and general resilience makes them perfect for the hard, mundane jobs that every planet and spaceport has.

Light Geodian: Dark skin, pale eyes, white hair, and white geometric markings on their faces, limbs and torso
Dark Geodian: Tan to pale skin, dark hair, and dark geometric markings on their faces, limbs and torsos.
Avg. Height: 6.5 ft
Build: Mainly heavy set and durable. Geodians are known for their higher bone density and a heightened  psychical strength

Nefnat

the soldiers

NEF-nat

As soldiers bred for war, and creatures engineered for combat, the Nefnats make quite a formidable foe. There are seven types of Nefnat, knowns as Marks.

With genes spliced from the best races of the Kosmoverse, Nefnats get their strength from Secodacks and Geodians, their infrared vision from Turgens, and their stature and reflexes from Avaiyyatians, to name only a few.

Most Nefnat’s have pale to tan skin, with blond/light brown hair and yellowed, cat-like irises, and tails. Their sharpened teeth are often in poor condition due to sub-optimal genetic engineering.

Mark 1: First Strike Nefnat. Fast, enhanced, and terrifying.

Mark 2 : Tech and air force [piloting]. Small build, increased cerebral function, and reaction speed.

Mark 3: Heavy infantry. Reinforced bones, heavyset fighters.

Mark 4: Light infantry, infiltration. Lithe and balanced, enhanced senses, and enhanced reaction.

Fletric

FLEH-trik

Covienians are a very small minority in the Kosmoverse, as most of them stay in the Vien system. The more brave venture out into the Blue Fringe, becoming simple freighters or traders. The less brave stay and become mechanics, or something even less exciting. Most are suspicious and uninterested in the Inner Worlds, and harbor an age-old dislike for anything that doesn't come from their own planet.

All Covienians have blond hair and dark eyes. The only exception being some light-eyed Scavenger tribes that inhabit an abandoned part of Covien, called The Hollow Wastes. They have no markings, and no variation from their distant cousins, Humans, apart from their freakish height, which averagely, is 7 ft.

Simple in appearance, Fletrics are classed under the family Langian, due to their slow metabolisms, pointed ears, and marginally longer lifespans than that of Humarians.

Depending on the hemisphere, light or dark V's can line the brow, cheekbones, and wrists; a somewhat revered part of their appearance, and they are usually further embellished with either religious markings or House tattoos*. These can take shape as either diamonds or even more V's.

Fletrics can be understood by closely examining their religion, which is both strict and unwavering.

Average Height: 6ft.

Skin and Appearance: Pale and freckled. Dark hair.

Pointed ears that fold over to shield the ear canal from excess water.

*House tattoos are honoured and revered. Only Fletrics that uphold their communities' and families' conducts or beliefs will undergo these markings.

Tironian

Tir-ROW-nee-un

 servants and settlers

Project (20240730074122).png

Tironians are everywhere, and that’s not just a vague overstatement. Because Tironians operate in groups and communities called Kabuks, their beliefs and practices make them perfect for sending to the coldest, or hottest, or the most inhospitable places of Kosmoverse for pioneering it. As a result of this, their homeworld, Tir, would in no way sustain the Kosmoverse's vast Tironian population spread across the universe. It is worth mentioning that most Blue Fringe worlds are Tironian colonies.

Tirons, or Tironians, have blue ‘tiger-like’ stripes going either up or down their bodies, sprouting from their chest or spines. They have flat, pointed ears, and have thick, usually curly hair. Skin colour can vary from brown to pale.

Project (20240730074055).png

flirin

Performers and pirates

FLIR-in

 Dancers, performers, pirates.

Flirins are the dark-skinned, teal-eyed vagabonds that roam the Kosmoverse like space dust caught on a solar wind. Most Flirins would give up a homeworld for the freedom and breathing space of the wide, beautiful Kosmoverse– and it’s an environment most, if not all of them thrive in.

Charismatic, musical, and extremely family oriented, Flirins live and travel on ships and transports chasing seasonal work around the systems, or becoming a performing troupe.       Spending most of their life traveling, some Flirins use their knowledge of the space between the worlds for piracy, giving Flirins a bad name as thieves and cut throats. Which… isn’t entirely untrue…

Flirins are known for their colourful way of dress, whether a brightly dyed headscarf, or a famous Flirin feather in their hair. Flirins pass down the skill of being able to make jewelry or fabric out of any material they can find. This is impressive, but is merely the product of being, well, dirt poor.

Mechanics and maniacs

Project (20240730074312).png

Secodack

SEH-koh-DAK

A long-eared, and sharp-toothed race of high intelligence, Secodacks boast a strong bone density, and tough skin.

There are many types of Secodacks, but the most well known are Florodine, Tierrian, Petalions, Espinano, Selva, and Sier’nnsh.

Secodacks who live in Entrillian Space, or surrounding regions, are often found on space ports, docks, stations or freighters, as mechanics, engineers and technicians.

A common genetic hiccup in Secolise biology is the Florodine Secodack, a smaller, four-fingered Secodack, potentially the product of either outer-racial mixing or genetic mutation.

  Secodack Avg. Height: 5 ft

Florodine Secodack Avg Height: 4 -4.5ft

Avaiyyatian

General : AH-VEE-ah-SHIN
Tribal : ahv-AY-YAT-ti-en

Tall, lean, and agile, Avaiyyatians have long been considered one of the most beautiful races of the Kosmoverse. Their white-blond hair and pale complexion makes the vivid black dots on their skin prominent and extraordinary, while their agility and poise marks them as graceful and elegant.

The culture of the Entrillian Avaiys, as they are commonly referred to, is of one obsessed with perfection. Beauty and performance is placed high above welfare and community, and this can be traced back to their long forgotten deities– the Ninzi, who would bless the tribes with good fortune only if they forsook imbalance and embraced true perfection.

 Average Height: 6ft.

Skin and Appearance: Pale, light and soft skin, with black dots spiraling up and down their bodies. White hair.

Very light bone structure.

Evren will never know who she is, but you can!

Meet the Characters

Come get to know your heroes. There's more than what meets the eye for these folks, so pay close attention to their description...

Evren West

After surviving a deadly Astrostorm, Evren spends her days pretending to know how to read, scrounging for food, and dreaming of a life off Covien. While she can't remember her life before the storm, Evren does her best to struggle through each day with honesty, humour, and a deep sense of unease about her quickly forming abilities...

AGE: Unknown / Race: Geodian (DARK) / Homeworld: Unknown

Best qualities: Kindness and ingenuity
Worst traits: laziness and disassociation,

A hidden talent: is not the worst with numbers

Project (20240716020354).png

Aster Rigg

As Captain to the Passerine, Aster has a stiff and rigid exterior that can seem frustrating and impassive on good days. Aster left his military career behind him after the Blue Fringe war and now spends his days venturing between the planets and arguing with his engineers. When he isn't finding the next contract for him and his crew, Aster is either reading or pouring over every map he can get his hands on.

AGE: 40+/ Race: fletric/ Homeworld: Furl

traits and qualities : Faithful, stubborn, unforgiving and scary
Random fact: is not a half bad singer

Project (20240618100751).png

After his many years of serving in the Sceliran Order, Sevus escaped the Scelirian slave military via Captain Rigg's offer of employment. With his soldiering days behind him, Sevus does his best to forget the world he came from and settle into his new life in the more free, albeit still struggling, Entrillian Empire. Now, the only battles Sevus is faced with is his crippling anxiety, and his crew's lack of critical thinking skills.

AGE: unknown/ Race: nefnat(mark 3) / Homeworld: N/A

Random fact: can dance wonderfully

Sevus clacher [9225.3]

Project (20241028092638).png

Zara Leers-Xasan

Zara is your typical medic - tired, angry, and somewhat mean, but underneath her exhaustion and general pettiness is an understanding and extremely intelligent person. Zara rebels against her culture's rigid views by using tattoos to compliment her native marking. When she's not running after some idiotic crew-member, Zara can be either napping, or drinking something dangerously caffeinated.

AGE: 23 / Race: Avaiyyatian / Homeworld: Entril (kore)

traits and qualitiesHonest, reliable, uncompromising, and sarcastic.
random fact : struggles with insomnia

Project (20231130102404).png

Charge Persied

If there's one thing the story has made clear, it's that Charge makes terribly mean assumptions about people- but unfortunately, Charge is usually right. With an uncanny knack for reading people, Charge uses this skill to navigate the world at large, and to formulate some biting insults. Combined with his clever engineering and phenomenal abilities, Charge appears to be the textbook definition of a pretentious miscreant. And he'll never let anyone think any differently.

AGE: ??/ Race: Secodack / Homeworld: Seco

traits and qualities: Perceptive, suspicious, skilled, and cowardly.
random fact : Feels calmest when he listens to music

xan.png

Xander Nemeshianci

With his days in the Gladiator rings long behind him, Xander tries to make up for his violent past by helping anyone who might need an extra pair of hands, or a lighthearted conversation. After spending his entire life living under the assumptions other people made about him, Xander is happy to live and let live, but will stop at nothing to protect the crew he's come to see as his family.

AGE: 27/ Race: Geodian (light) / Homeworld: Xenophos

traits and qualities : Energetic, extroverted, dangerous, and friendly.
random fact : Makes the best hot chocolate, ever.

Tarik Kepper (1).png

Tarik Kepper

Unsurprisingly, Tarik doesn't talk about her past- but she has enough to say in Alphon, the Kosmoverse's completely silent Sign-Language. With one cybernetic arm, and enough war stories to fill a history book, Tarik reckons she's seen, and fought for, enough of the universe. So now she spends her days aboard the Passerine as an engineer for their dual Light engines. Tarik has her own version of tough love and a quiet presence that the entire Passerine crew would be lost without. Her long life and jaded history only add to the weight behind her rare, but impactful, advice.

AGE: 54/ Race: TIRONIAN/ Homeworld: tENNEBRA

traits and qualities : humble, RELENTLESS, tricky, and INTROVERTED
random fact : steals food from the pantries
